Open Symbols

The engine, adapters, tooling and this site are released under the MIT License. The full text and every third-party notice are on the License page. The per-icon descriptions in data/icon-meanings are distributed under the same terms pending the owner's confirmation (production plan D15).

Icon artwork: Hugeicons

Icon shapes derive from @hugeicons/core-free-icons version 4.1.1, published by Hugeicons under the MIT License. The build converts SVG primitives to path data and adds Open Symbols' layer, grouping, hierarchy and animation metadata. The upstream notice, the exact package integrity hash and the unresolved provenance questions are recorded verbatim in packages/core/THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES and reproduced on the License page. Redistributions that include the derived artwork should keep that notice.

“SF Symbols” is a trademark of Apple Inc. Open Symbols is an independent project. The repository contains research notes that compare animation behaviour with SF Symbols; those are comparisons for engineering purposes only and imply no endorsement, affiliation or compatibility claim.

Name

“Open Symbols” is the working name of the project. Trademark clearance is an open owner item (production plan D16).
